The most dangerous animal in the world
‘The most dangerous animal in the world – the deadly invasion of the mosquito’ – this is how the German magazine Spiegel headlines its latest edition.
4 billion people around the globe are threatened by the Aedes aegypti mosquito which transmits deadly diseases like Yellow Fever, Dengue Fever, Chikungunya and Zika.
Together with Anopheles gambiae, the primary vector for Malaria, mosquitoes present one of the biggest health threats of our century.
The article points out that available measures such as vaccination and governmental mosquito control are not yet capable to protect the populations of the most endangered countries and areas.
Furthermore it explains that mosquitos carrying harmful diseases are not longer only a danger in tropical and African regions but that climate change and globalisation can and will bring them to every corner in the world.
